Energy distributors are defending adjustments in the values used by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) to calculate the new loan to the electric sector.
The changes would lead to an increase of around R$ 1.6 billion in the value of the ceiling that could be passed on to fund the measures adopted during the water crisis last year, the worst in 91 years.
According to the proposal presented by the regulatory agency, the first installment of the financial aid – intended to cover the gap in the so-called Bandeira account in April, the import of energy from neighboring countries and the bonus granted to consumers who save energy – should total up to R$ 5, 6 billion, which will be paid by consumers in the coming years, with interest.
The loan was authorized by the government in December, through a provisional measure regulated by decree of President Jair Bolsonaro.
However, it is up to the regulatory agency to analyze the contributions received in public consultation and define the amounts and payment terms for the financial operation.
There is still no forecast for the funds to be released to the distributors, which work as a kind of “box” for the electricity sector.
