Engie signed a contract with Azul to supply electricity and air conditioning from renewable sources to the airline’s planes while they are parked at Brasília Airport, replacing equipment powered by fossil fuels.
The technology is also expected to reduce jet fuel consumption.
“The use of these solutions with renewable energy will bring greater operational efficiency and more security to the airport, which will have less movement of mobile equipment in the aircraft parking lot”, says Jacques-Olivier Klotz, president of Engie Soluções.
With the Azul contract, Engie will now serve all national airlines that operate at Brasília airport.
For Roberto Luiz, director of Air Business at Inframerica, manager of Brasília Airport, there will be a considerable reduction in noise in the aircraft yard. “The electrical system, in addition to being less polluting, is quieter. Another important gain is the reduction of obstacles at aircraft parking points.”
The executive highlights that Brasília Airport has been working to bring more clean energy actions to the terminal. “We built a photovoltaic plant at the airport. Today, 7% of all terminal consumption comes from solar panels,” he reports.
Last year, Engie equipped 22 departure and arrival bridges at Brasília airport with the fueling technology. According to a note, the company hopes to take the solution to other airport terminals in the country.
