Engineer receives $250,000 from Google by mistake; company talks about human error

A man mistakenly received a payment of nearly $250,000 from Google — even though he had not done any work for the company.

Sam Curry, a security engineer at cryptocurrency firm Yuga Labs, described the baffling payout on his verified Twitter account last week.

“It’s been a little over 3 weeks since Google randomly sent me $249,999 and I still haven’t heard anything from the support ticket,” Curry wrote.

“Is there any way for us to contact @Google?”

“It’s okay if you don’t want it back,” he added.

Unfortunately for Curry, it looks like Google is working to recoup the money.

Google told CNN in a statement that the mistaken payment was the result of “human error”.

“Our team recently made a payment to the wrong party as a result of human error,” a Google spokesperson wrote in an email to CNN .

“We appreciate that it was communicated to us quickly by the impacted partner and we are working to correct it.”
