Engines of the plane that crashed with Marília Mendonça will be taken to Goiânia

The two engines of the aircraft that crashed with the singer Marília Mendonça are being taken by truck to the Aeronautical Services Center (CSA), in Goiânia.

According to the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA), the site has the necessary structure and availability for technicians from the 3rd Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (SERIPA III) to carry out the analysis of the equipment, in coordination with the aircraft operator. The pieces left Caratinga, in Minas Gerais, at dawn. The journey of more than 1,180 km can take 16 hours.

The company responsible for the transport had informed that a team from CENIPA in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo, would receive the two engines of the aircraft, but it went back. The two engines of the registration plane PT-ONJ were rescued, one in a forested area and the other submerged, at the scene of the accident.

The plane’s wings and fuselage arrived in Rio de Janeiro around 10:00 pm this Tuesday (9).

During the nine-hour journey between Caratinga and the capital of Rio de Janeiro, the company’s truck hired for the transfer was escorted by the army. The parts came packaged in blue plastic.

In the SERIPA III warehouse, which is linked to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and is located at Galeão international airport, investigators will work to try to arrive, as soon as possible, at the factors that may have influenced the accident. The aim of the investigations is also to prevent new accidents with similar characteristics from occurring.

The plane with the singer and two members of her team left Goiânia around 1 pm last Friday (5) and crashed two hours later in Caratinga, after hitting a network of the Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (Cemig).

The Air Force informed the CNN that the network of wires in which the plane with Marília Mendonça collided was not within the aerodrome’s protection zone, that is, it is not considered an obstacle for landings. For this reason, the information made available to the pilot, to prepare the flight plan, did not warn about cable networks.

However, it is not discarded that the commander, experienced in the profession, could have knowledge from another source of the existence of the wires, which only the FAB investigation will confirm.

The twin engine had no black box. The item is not mandatory by ANAC for this model of aircraft. But a GPS device, located inside the aircraft, could help Cenipa to understand if there was a change in the flight path.

The Civil Police also works to investigate the accident. THE CNN, the regional delegate for Caratinga, Ivan Lopes Sales, said experts want to know if the cable found by the teams attached to the plane’s propeller is the same one that broke the transmission tower. Only after completion of the expert work will it be possible to affirm this.
