A England had an increase in the number of people receiving Covid-19 vaccines before the Natal, said the Department of Health and Welfare (DHSC) on Sunday (26), with the biggest increase seen in people aged 30 and under.
According to government data, 221,564 first doses were administered between December 15 and December 21 in England, an increase of 46% from the previous week, while 279,112 second doses were administered – a 39% increase.
The country also saw an 85% increase in first doses for people aged between 18 and 24 years, and a 71% increase in first doses for people aged 25 to 30 years.
In a statement on Sunday, the Health Secretary of the United Kingdom, Sajid Javid, said it was “great” to see the recent increase in people getting the first and second injections.
“Millions of people have rolled up their sleeves, so let’s seize this moment and ensure we have the protection we need this winter,” he added.
With the UK seeing a record increase in new cases of Covid-19 Across the country, the government has encouraged people to get a third “booster” injection of the vaccine.
According to the latest available data – published on Friday (24) – more than 32 million people in the UK have already received a third dose of the vaccine.
In a statement on Sunday, UK Vaccine Minister Maggie Throup said the government had “boosted” its booster program to make it “easier than ever” for people to get vaccinated.
“Two doses are not enough against Omicron. I urge all eligible to take advantage of our accelerated program and book their Boost as soon as possible to increase their protection for the New Year,” said Throup.
