Enrico Letta: The leaders of the five largest European countries are considering going to Kyiv together

The secretary of the Italian center-left Democratic Party, Enrico Letta, in an interview with La Repubblica newspaper, referred to the role of Europe in the context of initiatives to end the war in Ukraine.

“The leaders of the five largest European countries (Italy, France, Germany, Spain and Poland) are thinking of going to Kyiv together. “for their actions and for supporting the victims of this war,” Leta said.

The leader of the Italian “Democrats” added that in the current EU “there is no place for Orban’s pro-Putinism”, which, however, “is more isolated than in the past, because the Russian invasion dissolved the Visegrad axis” . “We need to invest heavily in Poland, Hungary and Slovakia,” the former Italian prime minister added.

Finally, Enrico Letta returns to his proposal for the immediate creation of a European confederation, which could include Ukraine, and believes that the European Union – in order to function more effectively – must go beyond the current system it provides to each member state the right of veto.
