Enrollment begins for free Firefighters holiday course for children in RJ

Traditional in Rio de Janeiro’s summer, the Botinho Project will open registration between the 9th and 10th of January. The initiative is like a free summer camp for children and teenagers between 7 and 17 years old, and the proposal includes teaching drowning prevention and environmental preservation.

Students will be divided into three classes: Dolphin, for those between 7 and 10 years old, Moby Dick, from 11 to 14 years old, and Tubarão, from 15 to 17 years old. Classes take place between the 16th and 27th of January. At the end of these two weeks, participants receive a certificate and will even demonstrate what they have learned throughout the course.

Botinho exists for 60 years on the edge of Rio de Janeiro. This year, activities will take place on 29 beaches in Rio de Janeiro.

In partnership with Sesc-RJ, the Fire Department promotes physical exercises in the sand, instructions on sea conditions, first aid, socio-educational programs focused on environmental education and citizenship.

The expectation is that four thousand children and young people will participate in this edition of the colony throughout the state.

“Botinho is a national and international reference. Our traditional summer camp provides free fun for the kids, promotes social interaction among participants, while raising awareness about drowning prevention and nature preservation,” said Colonel Leandro Monteiro, State Secretary of Civil Defense and General Commander of the CBMERJ.
