Some time ago, Microsoft representatives announced a rather useful function for launching Android applications on Windows 11, but this is implemented quite inconveniently – the range of software in the branded store is very limited, and not every user will be able to install applications through the command line. Fortunately, an enthusiast named alesimula found himself online and released his own open source utility, WSA-pacman, that can install APK files from third-party sources in just a few clicks – much more convenient and faster than the option proposed by Microsoft.
In order to enjoy all the advantages of Android applications on a Windows 11 desktop, the user needs to follow a few simple steps:
- download and install the app from GitHub (regular and portable versions available);
- run WSA-pacman on your PC and wait for the software to connect to the Windows subsystem for Android to configure the Android Debug Bridge;
- right-click on the APK file, select “Open with” in the drop-down menu, then select the “Choose another application” option and browse to the WSA-pacman exe-file;
- do not forget to check the “Always open in this application” checkbox.
After performing these manipulations, installing the APK file will take no more than a couple of seconds – just double-click on the file to bring up the installation window. It indicates what permissions a specific application is requesting, and if the user is satisfied with everything, then he can click on the Install button. After installation, the Open app button will appear on the screen, by clicking on which, the user will be able to use the application with complete comfort using the mouse and keyboard.
