Enthusiast upgraded to Android 12 nearly ten-year-old Samsung flagship

To date, not all smartphone manufacturers have released software on Android 12, and so far only some device models have received the update. Older machines have no chance of upgrading at all, unless some modding community takes care of it. Thanks to this, many smartphones, which have already been discontinued, continue to work on current versions of Android. Of course, due to their hardware capabilities, older devices have long been lying in boxes or gathering dust somewhere on the shelves, but there are also chances to revive them. So, for example, one XDA enthusiast installed Android 12 on his ten-year-old Samsung Galaxy S III. Surprisingly, it works and is even faster than on TouchWiz.

Samsung has already stopped releasing updates for this smartphone model, but modders have not forgotten about it. The flagship of 2012 received support for Dual-Boot, Sailfish OS, and the latest update to date was the unofficial custom firmware LineageOS 19.0 based on Android 12. However, with limited functionality so far.

Samsung Galaxy S III 3G with Exynos 4412 processor (model number GT-I9300) can now download Android 12 thanks to user html6405 from XDA forum. The radio, camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as video playback with software / hardware acceleration, work fine on the smartphone. However, there are also bugs that the developer promises to fix in the near future. At the moment, unlocking the SIM card does not work (the PIN code must be disabled in advance on another device), NFC and formatting the microSD card. Otherwise, everything is pretty acceptable.
