One of the notable design differences is the lack of a dedicated keychain hole in the AirTag. IFixit attributes this to Apple’s tradition of turning “essential functions into premium optional accessories.” Simply put, in order to use the AirTag as a key fob, you will either need to buy an expensive additional accessory-cover, or go a roundabout way and drill the required hole yourself.
