The Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation will launch this Thursday (3) the Humanitas Ukraine Brazil Committee, which will coordinate emergency humanitarian aid actions needed in Ukraine.
The initiative will have the support of around 20 civil and religious organizations, such as the Center for Support to Foreigners in Brazil and Abroad (Caebe), Associação Comercial Inovação e Industria Brasil Ukraine, Associação da Juventude Ukrainiano Brasileira (Ajub), Sociedade dos Amigos da Ukrainian Culture (TPUC) and the Consulates of São Paulo and Curitiba.
The president of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation, Vitório Sorotiuk, stated that he is working for senators and deputies to lead Brazil to officially adopt humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Senator Álvaro Dias (Podes-PR) confirmed to the CNN who received the request from the president of the representation and discusses the matter with a technical team.
In an open letter, the entities also demand a position from the Brazilian government in the face of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Follow the special coverage of the conflict by CNN.
“We officially appealed to the President of Brazil on January 31 that descendants of Ukrainians were already suffering from the Russian military siege of Ukraine and to also visit President Zelensky, who invited him, as did the European leaders who visited both Putin and Zelensky. . We were not served. The President of the Federative Republic of Brazil offered solidarity to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. Now he has been spreading untruths about the conflict in the East in Donetsk and Luhasnk and preaching Brazil’s neutrality in the face of the unjust military aggression that Ukraine is suffering”, says the letter.
THE CNN contacted the federal government on the subject and is awaiting a response.
The honorary consul of Ukraine in São Paulo, Jorge Rybka, said that the group’s actions will focus on caring for refugees, such as registration and reception. Currently, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) of the United Nations (UN) has already counted more than one million people who crossed the border from Ukraine to European countries to flee the war.
