Once a year, works by thousands of artists from all over the world are brought together in one of the most important plastic arts fairs on the international circuit. In the episode aired this Sunday (17), Pedro Andrade and the CNN Entre Mundos dive into Art Basel.
Bringing together more than 4 thousand artists and 260 galleries, the event takes place in Miami, in the United States. In the place, artists of different nationalities – from those who are promises for the coming years to those already consecrated – exhibit their work.
“Art is something necessary in every society and we cannot live without it. It’s been that way since the time of cavemen, they took the time to make drawings in stone. It is a human experience that we cannot live without”, says plastic artist Bernadette Despujols in an interview with CNN .
The Venezuelan artist is one of those who exhibited her works to the approximately 80,000 annual visitors to Art Basel.
“And it all! This here is epic! For an artist, it’s the moment when we all connect,” urban artist Andrea “Freaky” Buenfil said of the event.
When a group of Swiss, some 20 years ago, decided to bring Art Basel to Miami, the reason was not clear. The city was not yet a reference for cultural life. Today, on the other hand, it is synonymous with contemporary art throughout the world.
