A 44-year-old businessman was arrested in the act last Wednesday (2), for selling Easter eggs that had been overcome since 2023. The case occurred in Cidreira, on the north coast of Rio Grande do Sul. The man traded the merchandise in a market in the city center.
According to the Civil Police, the lawsuit began after complaint of a chocolate manufacturer that identified the irregular sale of the products in cidreira. During the inspection, 24 Easter eggs were seized with counterfeit validity labels.
In addition to Easter eggs, agents found 2,244 improper consumption products on site, including foods and hygiene items, with expired, suppressed, or in disagreement with sanitary standards. All products have been seized and will be unused.
According to the delegate Antonio Carlos Ractz Jr., responsible for the operation, the sale of expired products is a crime against consumer relations, with a sentence of two to five years of detention.
