One couple of businessmen and a man are being investigated by the Public Prosecutor of Rio Grande do Norte (MPRN) for involvement in a credit card cloning scheme to apply blows in the city of Natal.
On Tuesday (15), the three were the target of Operation Flood, triggered by MPRN to investigate crimes of estelionate, money laundering and involvement in criminal organization.
The action was attended by two prosecutors, eight MPRN servants and 12 military police. Three search and seizure warrants were fulfilled at the addresses linked to the suspects. During the operation, credit and debit cards, cell phones and other electronic equipment were seized. All material will be analyzed by the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco).
According to the investigations, the suspects acted in Natal and were identified from an anonymous complaint received in 2021. The scheme used the mechanism known as Chargback, in which the holder of a card disputes a purchase and requests the chargeback. The investigated are pointed out by cloning cards and purchases through links generated in an application of a Brazilian financial institution.
After transactions, the amounts were transferred or drawn before the card holder noticed the fraud and request the cancellation of the purchase.
A laundry owned by the couple would be used to hide and conceal the values ​​obtained with the blows. The third suspect would have moved more than $ 100,000, which reinforces the signs of his participation in the scheme.
The victims accumulated damage to the locked cards and the names inserted in default records, while the banking institution also beaten the financial losses.
The investigated, all Christmas residents, can be responsible for the crimes of estelionate and money laundering. MPRN continues to investigate the case to gather more evidence, identify other possible involved and track the destination of the values ​​obtained illicitly.
