EPP: The EU to adopt a single European policy in the field of energy

The impact of the energy crisis on the lives and daily lives of European households, especially after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the need for EU energy autonomy, was discussed at an event held in the European Parliament, in Brussels, by MEPs and national MEPs who belong to the political family of the European People’s Party, on the initiative of the Vice President of the EPP Central Committee in the EP, Vangelis Meimarakis and with the participation of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

It was pointed out at the event that “the EU’s energy independence is now a key precondition for making the most of all the possibilities of European foreign policy, with the green transition now having a geopolitical character”.

MEPs and MEPs stated that “although Member States have already adopted national policies to support households, a crisis of this level calls for a more direct and unified European coordination for the further relief of citizens” and “therefore called for the EU to adopt a single European energy policy “.

At the same time, there was agreement that “the (European) Union can no longer depend on authoritarian regimes, which are characterized by liberating and revising beliefs and perceptions” and stressed, in particular, that “our transition to the green age will not it must reduce the competitiveness of European companies, but, on the contrary, guarantee the innovation and leadership of European business, as well as the creation of new jobs “.

The event was attended by, among others, EPP Vice-President Esther de Lange, responsible for the Working Group on the Environment, MEP Peter Liese, EPP Coordinator for Environment, Marian Marinescu EPP Coordinator for Transport and its President Committee on Foreign Affairs of the French Senate, Jean-Francois Rapin.
