THE Turkey will continue to intensify its operations against Kurdish PKK militants in Syria and IraqTurkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced today.
“We have already intensified our air operations and we will continue and show the terrorists that we can destroy them in any place and at any time”, noted the president of Turkey, which has launched a series of bombings since Oct. 1 in retaliation for an attack that injured two police officers in Ankara. The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Erdogan had declaredon Monday night that Turkey had “successfully” completed the “first phase” of the bombing campaign and hinted that Ankara would continue to “conduct” operations” in northern Syria and Iraq.
He had also announced on Monday – and repeated yesterday, Tuesday, evening – that “192 targets” were destroyed and “162 terrorists”, members of the PKK and its ally YPG, were killed. The YPG (People’s Protection Units) is a Kurdish organization within the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that has been at the forefront of the war against Islamic State jihadists in Syria.
