Erdogan counterattacks on the shock increases in basic items: ‘There is no economic problem in Turkey’

After reports of shock increases in food staples – such as lemons and potatoes – of up to 614%, Erdogan counterattacked by supporting the narrative that things in the economy are good.

As reported by SKAI, the Turkish president emphasized in his speech yesterday that there is no economic problem in the country and that the Turkish economy is doing very well.

T. ErdoÄŸan argued by comparing the figures of 2022 with corresponding ones of 2002, in terms of sales of cars and mobile phones.

The Turkish president argued that the country may be going through a period of recession, but on an overall level, the Turkish economy is at a better level compared to 20 years ago: “You talk about poverty. Where is it? The numbers tell the truth,” Erdogan said.
