In the interview Erdogan gave after meeting Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Samarkand, he said the Russian president was seeking to end the war as soon as possible. “We had extensive discussions with Putin in Uzbekistan. And he made it clear to me that he is ready to end the war as soon as possible. I got this impression because the situation is developing quite problematically,” said Erdogan.

According to him, the Kremlin would like to “finish this battle peacefully”. “This conflict, which caused human casualties. People die and in the end nobody wins,” Erdogan added, saying Moscow and Kyiv had reached an agreement to exchange 200m prisoners.
