Erdogan: Moscow and Kyiv to exchange 200 prisoners

THE Russia and Ukraine have agreed to exchange 200 prisonersthe Turkish president revealed on Monday night (19/9). Recep Tayyip Erdogan speaking to the US television network PBS.

“Soon there will be an exchange of 200 prisoners after an agreement between the sides”underlined the characteristic Erdogan and estimated that this is a “significant” progress in the conflict between Russia and Ukrainian.

The Turkish president, however, did not give any other details about the agreement or about the prisoners it will concern – whether they will be military or civilians – during the interview he granted in Turkish.

According to Erdogan, who met Russian President Vladimir Putin last week in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the Kremlin chief “wants to finish as soon as possible” with this war.

The Turkish president, who has managed to maintain his country’s ties with both Russia and Ukraine since the start of the war, has repeatedly offered to mediate an end to the conflict and reiterated that “we must reach an agreement that satisfies the whole world”.

But for this peace agreement, the territories that have been occupied should be returned: “This is what we expect and hope for,” he emphasized, as reported by the Athens News Agency, noting that he and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres “are working in this direction.”

Erdogan arrived on Saturday in New York and today, Tuesday (20/9) he is expected to address the UN General Assembly.
