The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced today that the operation of the Turkish armed forces against the Kurdish PKK militants in northern Iraq and Syria is coming to an end. “We will very soon complete the blockade of the operation zone in northern Iraq,” Erdogan said in his speech at the graduation ceremony of National Defense University students. He added that Turkish forces have dealt “serious blows to the terrorist organization” of the PKK. “We will fill in the gaps in the security zone along the southern border with Syria,” he continued, stressing: “We are determined to destroy any structure that may pose a threat to our country along the border with Iraq and Syria . “The separatist organization can no longer operate within our borders.
