Turkey and Kazakhstan aim to increase the volume of trade between the two countries to $ 10 billion, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today.
“We have assessed the possibilities of further developing and deepening our co-operation,” Erdogan told a joint news conference with Kazakh President Kazim-Jomart Tokayev in Ankara.
“The volume of trade between Turkey and Kazakhstan exceeded $ 5.3 billion last year. Therefore, we have exceeded the $ 5 billion target we had set in the short term. We will achieve our goal of $ 10 billion quickly,” he said. Erdogan.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Erdogan noted, adding that Turkey and Kazakhstan have reduced their cooperation to a strengthened strategic partnership.
The two leaders discussed the regional impact of the Ukrainian crisis and exchanged views on its peaceful resolution. “We are on the same wavelength in terms of Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” he said.
For his part, Tokayev described Turkey as “a very important strategic partner of Kazakhstan.” Turkey was the first country to recognize Kazakhstan’s independence, Tokayev said, stressing that the people of Kazakhstan would never forget that.
This is Tokayev’s first official visit to Turkey since taking office.
Turkey and Kazakhstan have signed 15 agreements in the fields of transport, defense industry, technology, trade, agriculture, education and culture, among others.
