Erdogan wants to denounce Greece to NATO over militarized islands

Recep Tayyip Erdogan is going to go one step further in the climate of tension cultivated by Turkey, according to the pro-government newspaper Sabah. He will denounce Greece for the militarization of the islands at the forthcoming NATO Summit.

According to a Sabah article titled “Landing with documents at NATO Summit”, the Turkish president will publish to the members of the Alliance alleged documents collected by his government, which “show” in Ankara that Greece is militarizing the islands in violation of the Treaties of Lausanne and Paris.

In its report, Sabah talks about “provocative visits of the Deputy Minister of Defense of Greece”, emphasizing that they should not take place.

According to the SKAI correspondent in Istanbul, Turkey is trying to show the Turkish people that it is going strong at the NATO Summit, as it is facing very serious problems inside.

On the one hand, it has received strong pressure from the great powers, such as Britain, France, the USA and Germany, to drop the tons and not to take provocative actions against Greece, and on the other hand, the economic problems are growing.

The Turkish government needs hot money and last week there were rumors that the Central Bank is calling for capital controls, as there are difficulties in meeting the country’s foreign exchange needs. In fact, according to analysts at Manolis Kostidis, Erdogan may call early elections in July.
