Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today he would discuss the Zaporizhia nuclear plant issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin after talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to a transcript of the interview cited by Reuters.
Zelensky said Russia should remove all mines in the area, Erdogan said in an interview with reporters on his flight from Lviv, Ukraine, on Thursday.
“We will discuss this matter with Putin and specifically ask him that Russia do what it should as an important step for world peace,” Erdogan said.
He does not rule out dialogue with Syria
The Turkish president also stated that he can never rule out dialogue and diplomacy with Syria.
Asked about possible talks with Damascus, he reportedly said that diplomacy between the states can never be completely cut off, taking a softer stance compared to his previous statements.
There is a “need to take further steps with Syria,” he said.
Ankara supports the opposition sides in the Syrian war. Damascus accuses Ankara of supporting “terrorist” groups in Syria. Erdogan promised earlier this year to carry out another military operation in northern Syria.
