Erdogan’s election show: ‘Our bad neighbor made us the owner of a defense industry’

“Our bad neighbor has made us the owner of a defense industry,” Erdogan said, trying once again to seize the momentum of communication to gain points at home, in an attempt to rally voters. Greece remains the villain of the case, as this time the Turkish president made a show at the launching ceremony of two Turkish submarines.

Turkey will launch six of its new submarines by 2027, the president said on Monday.

Speaking at a ceremony for the mooring of the Hizirreis submarine at the Golcuk Shipyard in Kocaeli, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: “We plan to launch the Hizirreis submarine in 2023 and the Selmanreis in 2027.”

“From this year, we will launch one of our submarines every year and add six new type submarines to our navy by 2027,” Erdogan added.

Erdogan said that as part of the country’s new type of submarine project, they aim to deliver the first submarine, called Pirireis, to the Navy Command this year.

He said almost 30 Turkish companies are involved in the project.

“Starting with our neighbors, many European countries have protected FETO miscreants,” he said.

“We were targeted because of our legitimate cross-border operations against terrorists who are targeting the lives, property and freedom of our people. Even when we were fighting hand to hand against the Islamic State, we were the subject of unthinkable accusations and slander,” he said.

“We have never forgotten the unjust sanctions imposed on our country due to the ‘peace operation’ in Cyprus,” he added.

Speaking also about Finland and Sweden’s efforts to join NATO, Erdogan stressed that Turkey wants to see concrete steps and not diplomatic statements on its security. “We can not set aside Sweden’s current sanctions on Turkey,” Erdogan said.
