Erdogan’s ‘instructions’ to… Greek voters: ‘Send a message to the rulers’

Tayyip Erdogan continues his provocative rhetoric, after the attack on Mr. Mitsotakis and the report that Turkey will not go to war with Greecebut “Athens does not keep its promises”, the Turkish president proceeded to… intervene in the internal affairs of the country by giving “instructions” to the Greek voters for the polls.

In essence, Erdogan called on Greek citizens to vote against the government, saying: “Our neighbor in the Aegean, politically, economically and militarily, is not on the same level as us. That is why in Turkey’s strategic calculations he has the position that his I hope that the Greek people will give the message and the lesson through the democratic way, to the rulers who run after adventures which will bring a disastrous end for the Greek people”.

In a speech at the National Defense University’s Institute of War, the Turkish president said “no one should have any doubt” that Ankara “will protect its western land, sea and air borders,” “without making the slightest concession to rights of Turkey in the Aegean and making full use of these rights” which derive, as he said, from international agreements.

“We recommend the Greek government, which is trying to intimidate – instead of trying to resolve our conflicts through dialogue and negotiation – to learn from the developments in our region and from the events that happened a century ago,” Erdogan added.

As he argued, “it is a fact that our neighbor in the Aegean is not in a position corresponding to us politically, economically and militarily. For this reason, Greece has a position as it deserves in Turkey’s strategic calculations”.

“We are not going to go to war with Greece”

T. Erdogan launched a double attack against the Greek Prime Minister both on the return plane from Madrid where the NATO Summit was held and after the Friday prayer.

Specifically, the Turkish president stated that “we are not going to go to war with Greece, but Greece does not keep its promises” and went on to say that “if we are going to live peacefully as neighbors, why are you violating our airspace 147 times in a very short time time. If you do this my air force will give a proper response. If you continue this, the armed forces will continue to do their duty. Otherwise, our people will ask where is our air force.”

At another point, T. Erdogan said: “let’s say here that Mitsotakis kind of admitted that we are right, but many leaders tried to make us single, but we said that we are not considering this at the moment. If necessary we will consider the circumstances and we will assess the situation accordingly.”

Earlier, returning from Madrid, Tayyip Erdogan once again expressed his refusal to meet with the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, saying that “it is not possible to meet if he does not comply”.
