Erdogan’s rage against doctors challenging Turkovac: ‘You are swindlers and liars’

Erdogan called doctors who questioned the effectiveness of the Turkovac vaccine “fraudsters and liars”, insisting that the vaccine was effective against covid-19 and “our invention”.

“Erciyes University produces, invents the Turkovac vaccine, others say there is no such thing. But how deceitful you are. How false you are!” The Turkish president characteristically stated to add:

“Since as a Medical Association you know so much, have you left a project? But you also put obstacles in the way of those who do work.”

The reason for Erdogan’s “outburst” was the report of the Turkish Medical Association that Turckovac, which was developed at a university in eastern Turkey, had “no scientific basis”.

The Medical Association describes the vaccine as a “simple solution” and stresses that no data on this vaccine have been published in any scientific journal.

“Neither medical associations, nor scientific communities, nor scientific journals have the data,” he said.

He also notes that the Turkish coronavirus vaccine is not recognized by the European Union, so that one can issue the relevant certificate.

It is noted that last week the General Secretary of the Turkish Medical Association Vedat Bulut stated that no Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 tests have been performed for Turkovac, which received an emergency use permit from the Turkish authorities in December.

Bulut referred to remarks made by Erziges University Rector Mustafa Tsalis, who revealed that as a result of university studies in genetically modified mice, Turkovac was found to be 100% effective against the Delta variant, as well as against the Delta variant.

“This statement does not reflect the truth.… It cannot be accepted as scientific data.… No Phase 1, Phase 2 or Phase 3 tests have been performed for this vaccine. What we mean by these tests is that the studies should be were conducted in healthy volunteers, but this was not done. What was released as a result of the Phase 1 trials [για το Turkovac] “It is based on a preclinical study involving animal experiments,” said Bulut.

“The Ministry of Health should be as transparent as possible about this and the studies should be published promptly in scientific journals so that our specialist bodies… can review these documents and provide information on Turkovac.… No “We are so concerned about the side effects of this vaccine, but we do not have data on its protection,” Bulut said.
