The highest 5G penetration rates are currently seen in Northeast Asia, including China. This is followed by North America, the countries of the Persian Gulf and Western Europe. However, the situation will change over time, and by 2026 North America will become the leader, where the share of 5G connections will reach 84%.

The authors of the report note that in terms of the speed of implementation of services, 5G networks surpass 4G networks when they appeared in 2009. Based on this, it is expected that the milestone of 1 billion connections in 5G networks will be reached two years earlier than it was in 4G networks.

All in all, at the moment, there are about 8 billion cellular connections of all generations. By the end of 2026, their number will grow to 8.8 billion, with 91% of connections coming from the mobile broadband segment. The number of unique mobile subscribers is now approximately 5.9 billion, by the end of the period covered by the forecast, their number will grow to 6.5 billion.
