Essenza Lucano, a journey through the history of the famous Amaro

It is a fascinating journey into the history of the famous Amaro and the territory of origin, Lucania, the exhibition path offered by the new space Lucanian essence. Embracing 125 years of history, this place tells, in a transversal and tangible way through objects, images and videos, the history of Vena family. An evocative path made up of 5 different chapters that take shape in 5 different thematic areas: Lucania, Lucano, Amaro, Storia and Pacchiana, dedicated to exploring the winning ingredients of this success story.

Designed by the architect Ralph Giannone of the GPAIA Associates studio in Toronto as an extension of the production plant in Pisticci Scalo, Essenza Lucano strikes first the nose and then the eyes for the heady and unmistakable scent of the 32 medicinal herbs that guides visitors from the large aromatic garden in the courtyard of entrance, where you can touch them with your hand the ingredients that make up the liquor formula. The journey continues along a series of exhibition spaces in which, through ancient walnut presses, traditional stills and images of the famous advertising campaigns, not only the constant dedication of the Vena family that has headed the company for four generations, but also the attachment to tradition and to the territory, factors that have always distinguished the success of the famous Amaro.

The path then leads visitors to an immense panoramic window that “reveals” the production process, allowing them to directly observe the workers involved in the delicate process. Essenza Lucano is not only an exhibition space, but also a place where Amaro enthusiasts can taste the famous liqueur as well as serve as a setting for food and wine masterclasses and show-cooking.

The sensory journey along the route is then intertwined with the multimedia one with contents that reveal curiosities and anecdotes about the history of the family.

This space was born from a precise choice of openness and dialogue with the territory, local institutions and its people, as well as from the desire of the Vena family to share the industrial, historical and cultural baggage of the company, concretely intervening in the territory where it is present, creating a destination within the destination and further motivation to visit Lucania. This is how Essenza Lucano becomes an expression of the charm of an entrepreneurial story born from the passion of Cav. Pasquale Vena for the herbalist tradition, accompanied by the social purpose of enhancing, promoting and sharing a territory.
