Estonia Min. Foreign Minister: Sweden-Finland accession to NATO will increase security in the Baltic region

Sweden and Finland’s accession to NATO will increase security in the Baltic region, said Estonian Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Limec.

“When we see that in our neighborhood and other democracies belong to NATO, it will mean that we will be able to have wider joint high schools and in addition (…) (we will have) more defense cooperation,” Limetz said in Berlin, where she met on Saturday. with its NATO counterparts.

The Estonian minister said she hoped Sweden, Finland and Turkey would resolve their differences so that the Nordic countries could join the Northeast Alliance, adding that the atmosphere at the Berlin summit was very supportive.

“We saw some disagreements, but also the desire of these countries to overcome them,” Limetz said.

Estonia appreciates the fact that NATO is increasing its presence in the Baltic region, but would also like member states to step up their defense.

“This would mean a stronger presence of ground forces, but also (stronger) air and naval defense,” the minister added.
