Estonia the largest donor to Ukraine in terms of GDP, according to researchers

Estonia, the small Baltic state, is by far the largest donor to Ukraine in terms of gross domestic product (GDP), according to data compiled by researchers in Germany.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of its neighbor on February 24, Estonia has pledged aid of almost 0.8% of its economic output, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

They are followed by Poland with almost 0.2% and Lithuania with close to 0.1%, according to the Ukraine Support Tracker database.

In absolute terms, the United States has made the largest commitments, worth about 7.6 billion euros, followed by Poland, Britain and Germany. All EU countries together have committed around € 2.9 billion in aid, plus € 1.4 billion from the EU institutions and € 2 billion from the European Investment Bank.

The Ukraine Support Tracker systematically records the value of publicly known military, financial or humanitarian assistance that the governments of 31 Western countries have pledged to provide to Ukraine, the institute said in a press release.
