Estonian PM: Any dialogue with Putin in vain, Ukrainian solution will be military

Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Callas in an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro called the dialogue with Russian President Putin in vain, arguing that the solution to the war in Ukraine can only be “military”.

Asked if he thought French President Emanuel Macron should continue to talk to Putin, he said the phone calls offered nothing, adding: “We found clear signs of genocide in Bhutan. Putin is a war criminal to me and I see no reason for him. “We say we have to show Putin that he is isolated – if we talk to him constantly, he will not feel isolated, but rather at the center of the world.”

Asked who he thinks will be Russia’s next target in the region if they do not “stop it”, he replied: “We have no choice but to stop the war and punish the attackers and all those responsible for war crimes. “If we accept the return to ‘business as usual’, the war will continue after a pause of one or two years.”

Regarding the reaction of Europe, Kalas pointed out that it was fast and in a united way. However, he argued that the longer the war lasted, the more difficult it was to maintain this unity.

Finally, when asked if “we are witnessing the return of the Cold War”, among other things, the Estonian Prime Minister commented that the war of tyranny against freedom continues from the Cold War and is evident today.

“Sometimes I feel that the war in Ukraine is a summary of our history. When some people say that peace should be the goal, it reminds me of the Soviet occupation after the Cold War. We had peace, yes. But peace with killings, atrocities. “My family was deported to Siberia. I have no doubt that this will happen in Ukraine if peace is required at all costs,” Kalas said.
