the blockbuster “ET – The Extraterrestrial” returns to Brazilian cinemas this Wednesday (2) in celebration of the 40th anniversary of its release. For the first time, fans will be able to see the work in IMAX – larger format and with better resolution.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film became a phenomenon. The production received nine Oscar nominations in 1983 and won four awards.
From 1982 to 1993, the blockbuster was responsible for the highest grossing in the history of cinema, losing the position to “Jurassic Park” also by Spielberg.
Since debut, “ET – The Extraterrestrial” grossed about $792 million worldwide. The film has already returned to theaters other times, such as in 2002, for its 20th anniversary.
Mixing several genres, including: science fiction, drama and adventure, the plot follows an alien lost on Earth who befriends Elliot. The boy, along with his brothers, decides to help the extraterrestrial return to his planet while protecting him from the US government that wants to capture him.
The film stars Henry Thomas (“Legends of the Passion” and “The Curse”), Drew Barrymore (“The Panthers” and “As If It Was the First Time”) and Robert MacNaughton children at the time.
