The former president of the Energy Research Company Maurício Tolmasquim stated that ethanol should appreciate in November due to the harvest. In an interview with CNN he said that, historically, fuel tends to be more competitive with gasoline until the penultimate month of the year.
“When it enters the off-harvest period, the price of ethanol [tende] to rise and loses competitiveness”. The harvest period began in May.
Tolmasquim also stated that the price of ethanol is greatly influenced by the quality of the crop. “Currently, it’s good, which allows the mill owners to set the attractive price”.
The regions with the best value should be the Southeast and Midwest, which are closer to the plants.
In São Paulo, for example, ethanol was already more competitive than gasoline. And with the reduction of ICMS at the same time, the analyst believes that the competitiveness between fuels will increase.
prices in the states
Despite the tax reduction, Tolmasquim says that ethanol should vary from state to state, so “it is important that consumers in each region look at the calculation to see if it is worth buying [o etanol]”.
And even within a single state, there may be different prices, since the stations are independent and may or may not pass on the reduction in the pump price.
