Ethereum developers have announced that the rollout of the long-awaited Shapella update, whose name combines the names of the Shanghai and Capella hard forks, will take place on April 12 at 10:27 UTC on block number 6,209,536. will allow validators to withdraw ether locked in staking. The update also includes other improvements to reduce gas costs.
At a developer meeting, Ethereum Foundation security specialist Fredrik Svantes said that it is now very important to find any vulnerabilities that affect the Shapella codebase. Therefore, the maximum reward for found bugs related to Shapella will be doubled to $500,000. The bug bounty program covers various aspects of the network, including the consensus model, proof of stake, and overall network security.
Engineer Parithos Jayanthi, who works on the DevOps team at the Ethereum Foundation, said that as the final releases of the client software are ready, the developers will launch the last shadow fork of the mainnet for the test. Jayanti added that there had already been several shady forks in preparation for Shapella. The developers urged all Ethereum network node operators to update their software before launching Shapella.
Recall that at the end of February, Ethereum developers activated the Shanghai hard fork on the Sepolia testnet, and in March they successfully deployed it on the Goerli testnet.
