Ethereum Name Service (ENS) recorded a sharp increase in the number of created addresses, which exceeded two million, before the transition of Ethereum to the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) algorithm.
ENS manages the issuance and renewal of .eth domain names. The ENS name can be linked to an Ethereum wallet and used as an address instead of the usual long string of characters. According to a Dune Analytics report, as of August 18, the total number of ENS names created is 2,006,083.
“Two million ENS names created! It took five years to get one million names, then three and a half months to get two million, and we’re just getting started.”
After ENS domains topped 1.8 million earlier this month, Khori Whittaker, CEO of True Names Limited, the company behind ENS domains, said the surge in registrations was the result of a growing community.
“There is an extremely active ecosystem of ENS advocates, and they are independently and organically creating sub-communities and spreading the word about how ENS domains can be used,” Whittaker said.
ENS is not the only protocol offering domain names. Last month, ENS rival Unstoppable Domains reached the $1 billion mark after a $65 million Series A funding round. Unstoppable Domains reported that the number of registered domains exceeded two million addresses in February.
Recall that in November last year, the developers of the ENS project launched a token for voting for proposals for the development of the project.
