Ethereum Sepolia Testnet Switched to Proof-of-Stake Algorithm

Ethereum developers continue to methodically test the transition to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm. They announced the successful transition of the Sepolia testnet to PoS.

The developers only need to test the transition to PoS on one test network – Goerli. After that, it will be the turn of the main Ethereum network. At the same time, although the translation of Sepolia itself was considered a success, the process was not without problems. Now the developers will monitor the work of the test blockchain for several days.

According to Ethereum developer Terence Tsao, after Sepolia switched to PoS, about 25-30% of validators went offline due to “misconfiguration of clients.” However, Cao emphasized that such “oversights” would not interfere with further testing.

In the near future, the transition to PoS should be worked out on the Goerli testnet, and this will be the final testing before updating the Ethereum main network. The exact date of the transfer of Goerli is not yet known – it will depend on the results of Sepolia’s work.

At the same time, as Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin noted, the main network of the second cryptocurrency involves a large amount of “infrastructure of third-party providers, which is not in the test networks.” Therefore, there may be “non-critical problems”, but Buterin is confident in the successful migration of the main network.

Recall that in early June, the Ropsten test network successfully switched to Proof-of-Stake.
