Additional sanctions against Russia were approved.
As the Czech presidency reports in a post on Twitter, EU permanent representatives approved the next package of sanctions in response to Russian aggression against Ukraine. The new measures will align the EU with G7 partners, strengthen their implementation and close gaps where needed.
The new sanctions include a ban on imports of Russian-origin gold (and jewelry), freezing of Sberbank’s assets, more sanctions on natural and legal persons, and a commitment that the sanctions will not jeopardize food and energy security throughout the world
The package will be approved by the Council by written procedure, which will be completed tomorrow at 10:00 (Brussels time). The sanctions will come into effect after they are published in the EU’s Official Journal tomorrow.
