EU agreement to reduce energy consumption by 11.7% in 2030

In a temporary agreement to reduce the final energy consumption at the EU level by 11.7% in 2030 concluded on Friday (10/3) the presidency of the Council of European Union Mrand the negotiators of the European Parliament.

“This translates into an upper limit of 763 million tonnes of oil equivalent for final energy consumption and 993 million tonnes of oil equivalent for primary consumption energy“, says a statement of the Council of the EU.

The consumption limit for final consumption will be binding on Member States while the target for primary energy consumption will be indicative, added the council, as reported by the Athens News Agency.

The Permanent Representatives Committee in the Council and the European Parliament’s committee responsible for energy policies will now have to approve this interim agreement, before the parliament and the council can formally adopt it.
