EU and Chile sign trade agreement expected to increase exports by up to €4.5 billion

The European Union (EU) and Chile concluded this Friday (9) negotiations for a trade and cooperation agreement aimed at promoting investment and trade opportunities.

According to the EU, the forecast is that 99.9% of exports from the EU will become tariff-free, which should increase the bloc’s exports to Chile by up to 4.5 billion euros.

Furthermore, the agreement guarantees better access for EU companies to Chilean public contracts, and vice versa.

The agreement also provides for human rights cooperation, investments in technology and innovation and other actions, which were not specified in the official EU statement.

According to the bloc, the EU and Chile already had an Association agreement, which caused trade in goods between the country and the bloc to grow 163% between 2002 and 2021.

Already, according to the statement, exports of goods from the EU to Chile grew 284% in the same period.
