The European Union welcomes the agreements signed today in Istanbul by Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and the United Nations to unfreeze Ukrainian grain exports, EU High Representative Josep Borrell said in a written statement.
He called it “a critical step forward in efforts to overcome global food insecurity caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Its success will depend on the swift and good faith implementation of today’s agreement.”
Mr Borel stresses that “Russia’s unprovoked and unprovoked military attack against Ukraine has a devastating global impact. Russia is deliberately destroying Ukraine’s agricultural and transport infrastructure and equipment, causing fuel shortages and disrupting the global food supply chain through blockading Ukraine’s ports and looting Ukrainian grain. In fact, Russia has jeopardized food security for millions of people around the world. This agreement offers an opportunity to begin reversing this negative course.”
