EU High Representative Josep Borrell has proposed an additional 500m euros for weapons in Ukraine, according to a statement issued this morning at a summit in Versailles.
“I urge European leaders to double the amount of military equipment supplied to the Ukrainian armed forces with an additional 500 million euros and at the same time continue to think about new sanctions against the Russian economy and Russian oligarchs,” said Josep Borrell.
He expressed confidence that European leaders would approve this amount very quickly. “It was not at all difficult to convince them,” he said.
Borrell also noted that “EU member states agree that we must continue to support Ukraine militarily and continue to put pressure on Russia.”
