EU: Car sales fell in March

The registration of passenger vehicles in the European Union declined in March compared to the previous year, as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine exacerbated supply problems, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) announced.

In March, new car registrations fell 20.5% to 844,187 vehicles, according to the union.

The region’s four main markets, Spain, Italy, France and Germany, all recorded double-digit declines in sales.

The Spanish market recorded the biggest decline for the month, as 30.2% fewer cars were sold, followed by Italy (-29.7%), followed by France (-19.5%) and Germany (-17 , 5%).

Overall, the first quarter of the year saw a drop in rankings across Europe, while all four major markets recorded a drop in sales in the first quarter.
