EU – China: High-level economic-trade talks for first time since 2020

The European Union and China will hold a high-level dialogue on economic and trade issues today, following tensions on a range of issues, including the war in Ukraine, Xinjiang province and an investment deal, the which has not been validated.

“The 9th High Level Economic and Trade Dialogue between the EU and China will be held tomorrow (today) 19/07,” European Commission Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis wrote yesterday in a post on Twitter.

“I look forward to co-chairing this important dialogue with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He.” This dialogue will be digital and will be held this afternoon, Beijing time, as Western diplomatic sources told Reuters.

The last round of this dialogue took place in July 2020, under the joint chairmanship of Dombrovskis and Liu.
