The EU is condemning Russia’s cyber-attacks on Ukraine.
A statement from High Representative Josep Borrell stated that “the European Union and its Member States, together with their international partners, strongly condemn the malicious activity carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which targeted the SAT, managed by Viasat “.
It is noted that the cyber attack took place one hour before the “unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Russia in Ukraine on February 24, thus facilitating the military attack.”
The cyber attack had a significant impact by disrupting communication to several public authorities, businesses and users in Ukraine, as well as affecting several EU Member States.
“Cyber-attacks targeting Ukraine, including vital infrastructure, could spread to other countries and have systemic consequences, endangering the security of Europe’s citizens,” he said.
The European Union, in close cooperation with its partners, is considering further measures to prevent, discourage, deter and respond to such malicious behavior in cyberspace. The European Union will continue to provide coordinated political, economic and material support to Ukraine to strengthen its cyber resilience.
