The European Union continues to worry that Britain will unilaterally ‘break’ the Northern Ireland Protocol agreement, European Commission Vice President Maros Sefsovic said today.
“There continues to be serious concern that the UK Government intends to proceed with a unilateral course of action,” Sefsovic said in a statement following a telephone conversation with British Foreign Secretary Liz Tras.
Sefsovic added that it would be “unacceptable” if the United Kingdom unilaterally abandoned the agreement, adding that the EU had offered a number of solutions to the problems facing the British government under the agreement.
“We have made it clear that there are still possibilities that can be explored in our proposals. We are still waiting for a response from the British side.”
