The European Union’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, said on Tuesday (10) that he expects an agreement soon on an embargo on Russia’s oil by the bloc, so that an agreement in this regard can be endorsed by the foreign ministers of the countries- members.
The foreign ministers of EU countries are due to meet next Monday.
Borrell said last week he could also convene an emergency meeting of ministers to sign the sanctions if they are ready, or to move negotiations forward.
If EU ambassadors fail to reach an agreement this week, he said foreign ministers could try to break any deadlock in a bid to convince reluctant states, particularly Hungary.
The European Commission proposed an embargo on Russian oil on May 4.
