EU: In talks with US and other gas suppliers besides Russia

The European Union is in talks with the United States and other suppliers to increase gas supplies to Europe, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said, amid concerns about flows from Russia.

In particular, as reported by Reuters, speaking at a conference of Tagesspiegel, Zeit, Handelsblatt and Wirtschaftswoche, Ms. von der Leyen said that “we are building an energy security partnership with the United States, which primarily concerns more LNG supplies.” .

She added that “we are also talking to other gas suppliers, for example Norway, to increase their supplies to Europe.”

It is noted that the escalation of tensions between the West and Moscow for Ukraine raises new concerns about the flow of Russian gas to Europe, with prices soaring in recent months amid lower-than-expected supplies from Russia.
