The European Union has decided to impose new sanctions against Belarus; members of the family of the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko were included in the sanctions list. This was announced on Twitter by the European observer of Radio Liberty Rikard Jozwiak.
According to him, the EU has decided to freeze assets and ban the issuance of visas to 78 people and eight legal entities. The list includes several businessmen, members of the Lukashenka family, rectors, prosecutors, judges, police officers and high-ranking military officials.
Jozwiak notes that later today the text of the decision will be published in the official EU journal.
According to him, the foreign ministers of the EU members also “gave the political green light” for sectoral sanctions against Belarus. They will affect part of its potash, oil and banking sectors.
The journalist writes that the sectoral sanctions will be approved by the leaders of the European Council of the EU, and then officially approved in a few days.
