The European Commission will not activate the option to purchase the 100 million additional doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was included in the contract between the two parties.
A Commission spokesman said the deadline for activating the option had already expired and that the EU did not intend to do so.
The Commission has already ordered 300 million installments from AstraZeneca under the contract, which provided for 400 million installments, of which 100 million would be optional, according to Reuters.
