On March 13, the EU co-ordinated Operation MEDEVAC, transporting chronically ill pediatric patients from Poland to Italy, according to a European Commission statement.
The operation was financially and operationally supported by the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and is part of the European Solidarity Mechanism for the intra-Community medical transport of refugees and displaced persons. It was performed by an Italian medical team upon request and in close cooperation with Poland.
The EU also continues to provide emergency assistance to Poland through the Facility, with France, Germany, Denmark and Austria providing significant quantities of medicines, medical equipment and housing-related equipment as well as pediatric vaccines.
